'The forming of the shaping' deals with loneliness and loss. The isolation that a musician's lifestyle can bring with it or the migration to a snowy, reserved Nordic country completely alone, with only a 25 kilo rucksack stuffed full of clothes and some vague acquaintances. Getting lice from the hostel-beds and later babysitting an empty studio-appartment, fanatically walking around trying to get a job cleaning hotel-rooms. Most of all the EP is about learning to take care of oneself, and the comforting functions of music.
Jæ recorded 'The forming of the shaping' in Amsterdam, Oslo and Reykjavik using only the microphone built into her laptop. Nestled in a room somewhere.
There's much to betray Jæ's formal education as a musician, like the fact that everything played on the EP comes from her hands, as well as her having produced and mixed the album herself. The record displays folk- and classical music-influences, skillful vocal arrangments and melancholy, reflective lyrics. It's one for the dreamy ponder-moments.
Still cleaning some toilets to make a living, Jæ is currently recording her first full-length album and touring around Europe and the USA.
