Hur gör man för att utvecklas som artist när man redan i första singeln har ett helt eget uttryck? David Pagmar har sedan Montt Mardiés debutsingel Highschool Drama tacklat dilemmat genom att ta sig an själsmässiga Ben Hur-projekt. Dubbelalbum, gästspel i massor och storslagna arrangemang.
Behovet av förändring och förnyelse är essentiellt för alla tänkande själar, men den takt som driver på oss i den postmoderna, nyhetsfixerade samtiden står i konflikt mot några av våra mest grundläggande behov. Samhörighet, trygghet, äkthet och kärlek. Resultatet av David Pagmars metamorfos är att han gått från att vara den populärkulturellt fullmatade Montt Mardié till att bara vara sig själv.
Men skaparjaget är inte David Pagmar. Det är Monty. Det är det namn han tagit när han nu presenterar sin första singel ”En till himmel” med Lorentz från Lorentz M. Zackarias.
”När planet landade på Newark hade skrivkrampen varit konstant i över två månader. Jag hade rest runt mellan städer och länder men inget kunde få den att släppa. Men så, på ett motellrum i Morningside Hights kom orden. 10 låtar på 10 dagar. 10 låtar som suttit fast långt, långt där inne. Jag spelade dom för min vän Jay och hans ord ”This is your best work yet man. I don’t have a clue what you’re singing about but it’s really awesome” kommer för alltid att eka i mitt huvud. Jag hade hittat hem. På andra sidan Atlanten.”

Sweden just got its 291:st Municipality. Since it was created as a manifestation of the idea of direct democracy, the chosen name was Kommun (meaning Muncipality in Swedish) . The men behind the new institution has a background in the town called Östersund and the bands Vapnet, Sibiria and Hospitalet. They deliver politics and black humor, together with classic guitar pop. Harmonies and production are recognized, but the sound is updated with a crunchiness that comes from a successful recording
trip to Henrik Ojas studio in Umeå.
In addition, the community has changed language to English, without losing the sharpness and humor that characterizes the aforementioned bands.
Many of the songs concern the conflict between ideology and practice, Sense and Sensibility. Kommun catches how the heart stops beating in a greedy C.E.O in the text of “Death of a CEO” and wonder if it is the angels singing for the dying one, or just laughing voices from the poor and unemployed…
In true collectivist spirit, the songwriters Martin Abrahamsson, Martin Hanberg and Erik Laquist write four songs each. And when the band enters the stage of the debut gig, we would be really surprised if not everyone in the band stands behind a microphone – not to sing in, but for talking to the audience in their own words between the songs.
