    Arsovski’s and Dimusevski’s joint effort “Sketches from the Past” proves the power of collaboration. This has proven as a truism in jazz: when great artists meet, the result often far outweighs what each artist can do individually. Sometimes the obvious has to be stated, as this sits at the core of the art form. The duo Kokan Dimusevski and Bodan Arsovski are going deep in their past for this release. Shortly before their initial band’s Leb i Sol reformation the duo decided to rework some of the band’s compositions. The two make intuitive, shape-shifting music that breaks new ground with its subtle, sophisticated rhythmic interplay and achingly lyrical beauty. Fans of Leb i Sol will recognise tunes like „Rucni Rad“, „Devetka“, „Damar“, „ Sumorno Prolece“. Both their playing and the presence of ECM’s sound engineer Jan Eric Kungshaug boosts resemblances with the sound associated with this label.
