  • Songs from the mountains

Norwegian singer - songwriter Felix Johansen wanted to take some of his songs back to the place where they were born. The album "Signestølen" is recorded in a sofa, in an old støl in the norwegian mountains in Hallingdal. (støl = old cabin used for keeping cattle in the mountains in the summer.) The recording is done live - directly to a digital stereo-recorder which Johansen had to carry on his back, together with his guitar, four harmonicas, some food and clean underwear.

The result is an unpolished and sincere album - true to the nature of the songs. - I really wanted to make this album now, and to do it the old way. No multitrack-recording, no addition of extra instruments or extra vocals, says Johansen.

During his recording week Johansen saw one rabbit, one mouse, a lot of birds, but no humans. - The place is unique. There is mountains all around and only the sound of the wind. The ideal place to write, and to record. Hopefully this atmosphere comes through when listening to the album, says Johansen.

Norwegian singer - songwriter Felix Johansen had Nick Drake as his main influence when he started his songwriting back in 1992. Since then he has developed his own style with a distinct vocal, fragile harmonica and soft fingerpicking-style on acoustic guitar. Felix has released six solo-albums and collaborated with several norwegian songwriters. He was nominated for a Norwegian Grammy in 2006.

  • Paying tribute to the piano

    - Although I mainly use acoustic guitar, the piano has always been close to my heart. I startet playing classical piano when I was seven, and kept it going for ten years, says norwegian singer & songwriter Felix Johansen.

He has found inspiration in the piano, making this EP, with his first song ever in english, "A day too early". A beautiful piano-ballad with a strong melody and a personal lyric about losing a loved one.

The album also contains to instrumentals, somewhere in between alternative and jazz.

"Pianokrakk" opens with a cover-version of "Hun kom som en engel" a smashing hit by to of norways greatest songwriters, Jonas Fjeld and Ole Paus.

This is Johansen`s album number 6. He has also collaboratet with other norwegian artists, and was nominated for a norwegian grammy in 2006.

  • Felix Johansen is paying tribute to two great norwegian songwriters, Ole Paus and Jonas Fjeld, while performing their song "Hun kom som en engel".

THE MONEY GENERATED FROM SALE OF THIS SONG WILL BE DONATED TO KIRKENS BYMISJONS "RUSKAFE" IN DRAMMEN, NORWAY.

Johansen has made the uptempo song into a piano-ballad, with additional harmonica and Hammond organ. "Hun kom som en engel" has been a major hit with Jonas Fjeld, and is regularly performed live in it`s original uptempo version based on Fjeld´s rythmic guitarplaying.

"I love the original version, but I felt the song also had a sort of melancholic side, and I have tried to pursue that feeling in this version" says Felix Johansen.

The singel is sold only as a digital download, and will be included in Johansen`s forthcoming digital EP "Pianokrakk", to be released in the summer 2009.
