  • Colourful and heartfelt instrumental music

Kytäjä is the love child of two finnish guys, Jarno Alho and Janne Lastumäki. Named after a little village that they spent their adolescence in.

Their debut album blends together influences from a wide variety of sources. There are echoes of the finnish rock history, some Wigwam and Jukka Tolonen lurking behind the bushes. The songs are
played in a jazzy way somewhat reminiscent of the british canterbury scene. Add an overall scandinavian pastoral mood, touches of atonality, soul music grooves and sounds and, uh, even traces of classic rock and you’re starting to get an idea of what it's all about.

Each track is a constantly evolving treasure-trove that, although suggesting numerous coordinates, the album ultimately offers up a synthesis that is far more than the sum of its parts. While this instrumental album transports listeners to other musical places and times -- particularly by reproducing familiar guitar, keyboard and bass sounds -- it doesn't get bogged down in retro-land.
