  • Mementos hyllade debutalbum.

  • MEMENTO MORI

Memento Mori was formed in Eskilstuna, Sweden in the early 1980’s. After a first year playing punk rock they began carving out their personal take on post punk: a very rhythm based music driven by the band’s excellent drummer Johan Mörén, adding extra percussion, mean guitars, sax and often with a funk bass at the core. The lyrics were in Swedish. Their debut album Jag...snäll ("Me...Kind") was released in 1983 and received a strong reception among Swedish music journalists. Sweden's biggest rock magazine of that time Schlager's readers voted Memento Mori as one of '83-year's best newcomers. In 1984 another critically acclaimed album Detta är paradiset (“This Is Paradise”) was released. It was voted fourth in Schlager's annual readers' poll regarding best Swedish album of '84. From the first album on a very intensive touring across the country and the fellow Nordic countries came about. Some music journalists even dubbed Memento Mori as “Sweden’s best live act”. In the late eighties the band went through some changes in line-up which delayed the release of their third album Våga leka (“Dare to Play”). In 1990 Memento Mori disbanded. Their albums have since become regarded as cult items and new fans have seen daylight following the revival of post punk rock in the middle of the 2000’s.

In 2007 the band re-formed in its “1985-edition”, which has been regarded as the best of all its existence.
