  • This set contains the first and previously unreleased studio recording of Richie Cole’s quintet featuring Bobby “The Wildman” Enriquez on piano. Swinging, joyous, burning, surprising, fun, reflective, all words that describe this date. Richie recalls “The group had been playing together on tour for about a year and I just knew I had to record what we were doing, so I booked this studio session in San Francisco and they captured us at a high point .” The band recorded a month later on the east coast at the Village Vanguard and that was released on Muse Records in 1982 under the title “Richie Cole…Alive!” and remains the only other recording of this astonishing quintet. As a leader, Bobby Enriquez (1943-1996) cut a dozen albums, one of which was entitled “The Wild Man Meets the Madman” on the GNP / Crescendo label, also recorded in 1981 it featured Richie Cole but with a
    different rhythm section.
