  • Swedish superstars-in-waiting SAD DAY FOR PUPPETS release their digital single “Marble Gods”, taken from the debut album “Unknown Colors” 2008.

The band were formed in late-2006 in the Stockholm suburb of Blackeberg, when songwriter and guitarist MARTIN KÄLLHOLM joined forces with fellow guitarist MARCUS SANDGREN and singer ANNA EKLUND. The trio bonded over their love of fuzz and feedback and began playing shows with bassist ALEX SVENSON-METÉS and drummer MICAEL BACK. By 2008, thanks to mutual friends the Television Personalities, they had been hand-picked to support MGMT on their Swedish dates.

The digital single ‘MARBLE GODS’, starts off like a cross between something from the first Concretes album and Dinosaur Jr circa ‘Where You Been’; an irresistible and irrepressible pop melody mixed with a brilliant and beautiful noise. The minute-long coda at the end (the best – the only? – coda on a single since Teenage Fanclub’s ‘The Concept’ way back in 1991) takes the J Mascis homage even further. Is that really a split-second of the guitar solo from ‘Get Me’? Frankly, when it’s this good, who cares?

  • The first album by Sad Day For Puppets!

Not very often do bands make such fuzz with just one EP, as Sad Day for Puppets did with their debut ”Just Like a Ghost EP” (2008). Sad Day for Puppets was formed in 2006, in Blackeberg, and this last spring saw the release of the aforementioned EP. Since then Puppets have toured together with Television Personalities, releases in Japan and set dates for gigs in various countries in Europe.

Sad Day for Puppets seems to just what the indie scene has been waiting for, worthy heirs of wall-of-sound guitar music of the early nineties.

The band started working on the album as soon as “Just Like a Ghost EP” was out, and this time around the guitars will have an even more prominent place in the over all sound. There will be guitar feedback, fuzzy distortion and big harmonies working as a fond for the voice of Anna Eklund. As on the EP, the songs on this album have been written by Martin Källholm.

Just like any other album released by HaHa FONOGRAM ”Unknown Colors” has a patron saint, this time it is the new friend, Dan Treacy (Television Personalities). Previous releases was given the honor to have names as Mike Always (el records) and Bertrand Burgalat (Tricatel).

  • Sad Day For Puppets is a young flower with many roots, they were formed in 2006 in Blackeberg, a suburb to Stockholm (Sweden), by Martin Källholm, guitarist and songwriter.

The natural focal point of the band is singer Anna Eklund, who with her dream-like voice and the harmony vocals of her sister Annika mesmerizes the audience.

Most of the bands influences can be traced back to the early nineties, when they all were teenagers. This period has made it's mark on the band. The guitars are once again allowed to roam free and shine.

The music is all about shimmering layers of guitars, intertwined feedback melodies all dreamy and grand and sad, and ethereal harmony vocals.
