"Seth" is a collection that sums up 2 decades of hard work for Sethstat. Sethstat isn't your average hip, sophisticated post-cocktail nation jazz/ fusion/latino combo. They play loose, they play fun, and they play to make you move. There has never been a jazz album that sounded like this, but Sethstat has been in a league of their own for some time now. "Seth" has a thoroughly different character than most jazz records: it leaps out at you, with a shockingly hot sound.Throughout a stellar careeer spanning 2 decades this is Sethstat's first collection and does not fail to impress on every track.

  • Personnel: Aleksandar Nikolovski: trumpet; Vasko Bojadziski: tenor saxophone; Vladan Drobicki: trombone; Pance Bujukliev: synthesizer, blues harp; Pavel Drobicki: electric bass guitar; Lazar Darkovski: drums; Goce Naumov: percussion.

Well versed in the so-called art of jazz, the members of Sethstat are informed in nearly every jazz style that has ever emerged. Thus, this release is a showcase of their technical proficiency and diverse tastes. As a result of that, on Rolling Garage they've composed some pretty mind-blowing original material and this is one of the most focused and intensely grooving albums the band has ever released. The interesting crossover between different genres and sounds on this record subverts any expectation concerning the structure and the melody of any given tune. This is just a very good, solid disc packed with strong performances and material.

The self-titled third album marks a change for Sethstat. Featuring one of the best rhythm sections on the Balkans music scene the band reaches new dizzy heights with their music. Tracks 1 - 7 were recorded live at the jazz festival in Kumanovo, Macedonia whereas the remaining 2 tracks are studio tracks. High points include the gorgeus "Nora," a tricky post-bop number featuring some great band interaction, "Mayo," "Diesel Violence."
This is what makes jazz worth it: fabulous playing, deep grooves, uncanny interaction and a the deft swagger that comes only from great musical companions.
