  • 1999. The Cassettes sprang forth from the musings and bedroom recordings of song- writer Shelby Cinca - at the time pulling double-duty as front man for the futurist D.C. post-punk band, Frodus. After sharing demos with long-time friend, Steve Kille (ex-Im- possible Five, now also the Dead Meadow bassist), the idea to embark as a full-blown rock n' roll outfit became reality. Recruiting drummer Stephen McCarty (Weird War) set The Cassettes on a journey that would chart unknown territories as they explored their souls with sound. This saw the band following in the tradition of music of days gone past such as: The Beatles, Badfinger, and Todd Rundgren; infused with their own pop sensibilities and punk energy. Melodies, rhythms, and the pulse of life led the band through several line-ups as well as two critically acclaimed 7" singles in the U.S. and abroad ("lights" 7") before the end of 2000. A quartet that's turning heads, a compact capsule of pop, the solution that sinks right to the ears. So listen, the reels are turning, the sound is travelling - The Cassettes are the music that looks ahead with no regrets.
