Melbourne based band, The Emergency have been in a recording hiatus for 18 months after the release and success of their debut album “The Spectrum Deadly” and its accompanying single, "We Got The Horror". The single was remixed by the likes of Electronicat and G.D. Luxxe (producer for Chicks on Speed), while the album wound up being touted in the blogosphere as one of the 'best releases of 2005'.
The band have returned with a new single on New York’s Metal Postcard Records with a new stripped down 21st century sound.
The Emergency draw inspiration from the likes of A Certain Ratio, The Pop Group, The Flying Lizards, and ESG but they refract that post-punk flavour through the prism of the sound of new releases from Paris’ Ed Banger records, Mstrkrft and Australia's own burgeoning electro scene.
Milo (voice, shakers and cowbell) and Morgan (computer and hand-claps) say: We're about stripping it down to the minimum but we use electronic gadgets and production rather than a bass guitar and a drumkit. 'Spending Time' sounds like something ESG or ACR might have cooked up if they listened to italo-disco or rave music or wrote all their tunes on the computer.
