  • The Kick is locked up in the studio, writing songs for their second "real" album. We're talking about the successor to the critically acclaimed debut "Metal Heart" and the much talked about free compilation "Anomalies (a collection of unreleased tracks)", released on their website and loads of blogs on last Christmas Eve!

The band has received lots of great attention outside Sweden but aforementioned "Anomalies" has gotten great reviews on home soil too; Musikjournalen wrote "9 out of 10 for a brilliant album with great depth" and Nöjesguiden awarded the album a Smiley when stating that it's "a soundtrack suitable for all the gloomy indie hearts, clapping hands in the dark, happy to hear decadent ambient indie, free from Christmas bells and Santas."

The upcoming album is scheduled to be an autumn release but there's already a teaser: "Rubicon", a grandiose summery pop song, full of depth and darkness, and with a chorus that sticks like glue. The B-side is "Only4U", exclusive to the single. "Rubicon" is released April 18 and there's an accompanying video, directed by Christoffer Fransson - don't miss any of it!

  • The Kick gives the world an amazing Christmas gift: an album Anomalies, totally for free (Christmas gifts usually are)! Here's what the band has to say:

For the past months The Kick has been hiding out in the studio working on new material to follow up the 2009 debut album Metal Heart. A new single is planned for release later this winter, but in the meantime David decided to give away some previously unreleased material for free. So how did this come about?

"I had a couple of songs that didn't make it on to the first record, mainly because they didn't fit the mood of the album. When I started working on new material I felt that I wanted to take the music in a new direction. I pushed the song writing and instrumentation into different areas and some of the first things I came up with reminded me of those couple of songs that never got properly recorded or released."

So why isn't this the second album by The Kick?

[i]"As the writing progressed I felt this wasn't the direction I wanted to take. At the same time the songs were to good to just throw away, so the label and I decided to release them for free. It's a good marker for where my creativity and inspiration was at for a certain period."

"There is a sort of eeriness to the songs. The sensation of walking through a public building in the middle of the night when it's completely empty. Maybe it's the fact that...

  • Let's get one thing straight: this is not a Beatles cover! David Sundqvist does his own thing and this new single is no exception. Right off the highly acclaimed debut album "Metal Heat", we get "Let It Be", not just the original but of course a selection of remixes as well. Notably: a cool tech house version by Håkan Lidbo, recent winner of Beatport's huge Depeche Mode remix contest!

The album "Metal Heart" was released this summer and has been hugely well received with 5 weeks at Top10 on the important German Alternative Charts (DAC), ahead of The Arctic Monkeys, among many. The album has also received some great reviews:

    GOTHIC [DE] (9/10) - "Fantastic"

ORKUS [DE] (9/10) - "With the debut 'Metal Heart' the Swede plays his trump somewhere between Nine Inch Nails, IAMX and My Bloody Valentine, and does so with great skill."

REFLECTIONS OF DARKNESS [DE] (8,5/10) - "I'm certain this album is gonna be a total success. Thumbs up!"

MEDIENKONVERTER [DE] (5/6) - "Using great talent to convert raw energy and dark dramatics into self igniting pathos bombs, The Kick is nothing like Roxette, Europe or Ace Of Base"

SONIC SEDUCER [DE] (-/-) - [i]"With gems like 'Freak'' and 'Dancer" this album does very well alongside stars like Nine Inch Nails and IAMX"[...

  • "One kick and it's over me"

Following the singles "Dancer", "My Darkest Hour" and "Freak" it is now time to unveil "Metal Heart", the highly anticipated debut album by The Kick. With influences ranging from shoegaze to goth and a fascination for mixing organic elements with machines The Kick presents a collection of songs in the borderland between alternative and industrial pop.

During the past year, while proceeding with the work on the debut album, The Kick opened live for bands like Client, Timo Räisänen and Alice In Videoland, presenting the songs to an enthralled audience. Now, twelve of these very personal treasures are bonding on "Metal Heart". Twelve tracks of which almost each and every track could be a single!

The darkness of Swedish winters has definitely affected David Sundqvist, the man behind Gothenburg-based artist The Kick. Lyrically "Metal Heart" revolves around how David relates to and perceives the world. "I started to ask myself why I didn’t connect and why a lot of times I felt like a total alien. First on a personal level, how I was relating to myself but also to the people around me and finally with society and the world as a whole."

"Metal Heart" is without doubt one of the strongest a...

  • Just back from a successful Canadian tour THE KICK releases their new single "Freak"! An intense and energetic alternative pop gem with the verse built around a pounding drumbeat, distorted bass and driving guitars, in a chorus that sticks like glue! Included in the packade is also a brilliant electro remix!

"Freak" is taken from the forthcoming album "Metal Heart", scheduled for release later this spring. Soon the waiting is over! While waiting, rush over to MySpace and check out the freakyvideo as well!

  • Don't confuse THE KICK with some other crap of a similar name – this is The Kick for real!

The Kick released their debut single "Dancer" last winter; a track full of broken disco beats and decadent undertones. Ever since then they've been working towards their debut album. But the tension is insufferable and we can't wait any longer!! So, another single will hit the streets on the 22nd of September – "My Darkest Hour", an intense and altogether darker story, but at the same time rockier and straight to the point.

The video was shot on a dark summer evening by Lake Sommen in the darkest midst of Sweden. A boat races forward in the twilight, a woman's dead body floats gently on the shoreline, a group of suspicious characters are occupied with something strange and unclear, and the evening feels peculiar and disturbing... see it now at www.myspace.com/thekicksweden

The Kick is David Sundqvist's solo project but he's definitely no rookie. David has previously played with electro-glam rockers Elasmo, Fireline Angels (with Sarah Assbring a.k.a. El Perro Del Mar) and Kitty Jutbring (of Kitty & The K), among many others, and he's played the guitar behind Kristian Antilla. But now he's out there on his own, doing The Kick. The original.

  • David Sundqvist is THE KICK. "Dancer" is the debut single. But David is no wet-behind-the-ears newbie. With a list of previous bands behind him, amongst them the electro-glam rock Elasmo, Fireline Angels (with Sarah Assbring, now appearing as El Perro Del Mar) and Kitty Jutbring in Kitty & The K he's not been idle in recent years. And not only studio work has kept him busy; living out of a minibus on a country-wide live circuit he's seen it all from Hultsfred to Arvika, e.g. as guitarist with Kristian Antilla.

With so much experience to bring to his latest project THE KICK, how did the man behind it all define the music? "The Kick comes from a need to create music entirely by my own hands. From broken beats, distorted synth and epic guitar riffs the sound just grew on it's own".

And the new single? "'Dancer' is broken disco beat with decadent undertones which describes the world as beautiful. And for you – as long as you make your own way, just dance! You're a Dancer!"

"Dancer" is already making waves and with a remix by house producer Stisch we're not entirely surprised.
