  • Rane Knudsen returns with a new full-length recording of eclectic compositions inspired by the ancient orient and fused with contemporary and interpretive elements.

All tracks have been composed by Rane, with a few exceptions: Organ theme on ”Brightest Heaven” by Emil Stampe Frøsig, shawm theme by Thielman Susato (”Hoboeckentanz”, 16th century). The middle section of ”Hortus Conclusus” is an anonymous French Traditional, arr. Mauerbrecher. ”Carmen Vernale” is an ecclesial traditional tune from the Middle Ages, arr. Mauerbrecher.

For this release, Mauerbrecher is – in order of appearance:

Rane Rørdam Knudsen: synths, percussion, vocals, various traditional instruments
Emil Stampe Frøsig: synth organ, acoustic guitar.
    Malene Mansfeld-Giese: vocals
    Stefan Bergenholtz: viola

Also, a grotesquely distorted voice sample of Amanda Claire ”the Panda Bear” Saxton appears on ”Marduk”.

  • MAUERBRECHER is not so much a band as a music collective centered on composer and band leader Rane Knudsen. The music of MAUERBRECHER is best described as lying somewhere between the fields of world music, neo-folk and neo-medieval music.

MAUERBRECHER omprises itself of folk songs from around Europe, English Renaissance ballads, American Country and Western ballads, Irish jigs, electronic re-interpretations of medieval dance tunes, and the occasional venture into the realm of dark ambient and industrial noise music.
