  • Formed back in 2000, Mirzadeh is a melodic black metal group hailing from Finland. As with their previous album, the group continues their trademark feature which is making dark, macabre Pyhävuori-inspired songs. The music is fairly traditional synth and guitar driven melodic black metal with slight hints of folk music. However, some might say that Mirzadeh's music is a bit unconventionally produced, as it sounds even too "good". This is what makes Mirzadeh sound like a commercial black metal band rather than underground act, and some purists have a problem with that. Regardless, I'd suggest fans of black metal give Mirzadeh a listen, since they might be favourably surprised by the material.

The production on this record is a bit thin-sounding, which makes me wish the sounds would be more powerful and the guitars had more body. In addition, the cymbals have some unwanted sizzly-character to them. Nonetheless, the recordings are rather clean, and for a black metal artist the production is actually quite good as I stated earlier. The songs are more captivating than on your average black metal band, and the overall impression of The Creatures of Loviatar is rather positive. As one can deduct from the song titles, few songs are sung in Finnish though the majority of songs are in English - this gave the album nice variance without making it sound too incoherent.
