  • As the first Norwegian bluegrass band to sign an international record deal, these guys are truly pioneers. Marshall Monrad Band is an acoustic band from the hills and valleys around the Oslo area, with wide influences. Former politician and deep-sea diver Cato Monrad (banjo/mandolin/vocal), Joachim Svendsen (guitar/mandolin/vocal), Erlend Hølland (bass/vocal) and singer/songwriter Bjørn Nilsen (vocal/guitar/harmonica) complement each others talents in an inspirational way. MMB formed in 2008, and has been regarded a great live act, with highly praised appearances at fine festivals like Live At Heart, Rammerokk, Countryfestivalen Seljord, Sjømatfestivalen i Oslo and Risør Bluegrass Festival to back it up.

Banjo, mandolin and harmonica etc makes this a band not only for hard-core bluegrass fans, but also for people into country and folk music in the neighborhood of Bruce Springsteens’ ”Seeger Sessions”, The Band, Ralph Stanley and Old Crow Medicine Show.
Swinging originals and re-imagined well known, or not so well known traditional songs, all done with a clear signature, the bands debut album; ”The Marshall Plan” was released to fine reviews in Norway and abroad autumn 2009.

Marshall Monrad Bands second album and international debut; Minerals & Mud will be released by Rootsy.nu in January 2012. Eleven rustic songs with lyrics related to mining, traveling and everyday life. Nine originals and two reworked bluegrass classics makes up this interesting piece of work. Legends like Stephen Ackles, Paal Flaata and Norwegian Country Grammy winner Tore Andersen lend their great voices to this album.

  • Sweden's OK Star Orchestra returns with their third album entitled »The Beat and the Melody«. And
it is a title that says quite a lot about the music. Beat AND melody.

There are obviously some African elements in the music of OK Star Orchestra. But they mix it effortlessly with blues, jazz, rock and Nordic music. And this time they even include some Japanese sounds. Listen to their brilliant remake of the Sixties hit »Sukiyaki«!

OK Star Orchestra has grown twice as big since the last album. The original trio was Tommy Galento, Mistah Christah Lyssarides and Perry Vallgren and now they are joined by Lina Langendorf (saxophon), Hassan Bah (kongoma) and Thomas Dawidowski (bass).

  • With the history of the Austin based band Deadman in mind, it's kind of hard to tell if »Take Up Your Mat and Walk« is their second or fourth abum. Or maybe even their fiirst. But it really doesn't matter. Let's agree on one thing: it's the best Deadman album so far!

»Take Up Your Mat and Walk« includes ten brilliant songs written by lead singer Steven Collins.

»Take Up Your Mat and Walk« will be released on CD and LP in Europe by the Rootsy label out of Sweden. The US release will most likely be in 2012.

  • American singer/ songwriter Chip Taylor was due to play at Down on the Farm, outside Halden, Norway, when terror hit the capital city, Oslo, and the island of Utøya. When the festival was canceled, Taylor wrote the song »This darkest Day«, A week later he recorded the song together with musicians Fats Kaplin, Gøran Grini and Terje Støldal. Norwegian friends Paal Flaata and Ida Jenshus added beautiful vocal contributions.

Any profits from this recording will go to Antirasistisk Senter (The Norwegian Centre against Racism)
