We would like to thank all of the artists who have contributed remixes to this compilation and to Jens and all the Rump Recordings artists for making it possible. These remixes are the first ever of Icarus and have amplified the spirit of the original album 'Sylt', which was also a remix as much as a new departure, reinterpreting elements from previous albums within our live material. It is a great pleasure to hear Icarus further rewired.
Alice Scott created an animation to an early version of the track 'Keet' (which appears on this release as 'Keets'), and the track in fact acquired its title from the subject of the film; the increasing number of bright green squawking parakeets that have slowly taken over London's parks since their release in unknown circumstances [still the subject of much speculation] in the mid 1980s. The tropical birds are now more common than native blackbirds or sparrows and the film imagines a future scenario where the parakeets become as prolific as the common pigeon is today. The film is available to view and download through our website: [www.icarus.nu]

"Given the feeling of flux that imbues Icarus's music a remix album makes perfect sense, while judicious choices regarding the producers chosen to carry out the task mean this feels more like a collection of brand new music than reinterpretati...

  • Rumpistols characteristic combination of intricate compositions and catchy melodies is continued on his 3rd album 'Dynamo'. Here drum-machines and synths merge effortlessly with more traditional instruments like pianos and strings.
The album is balanced between an introverted expression and a more outward-looking experience, while an ongoing alternation between melancholy and optimism adds a tinge of nostalgia.
This is enhanced by the orchestration and production, which contain references to both new and old electronic music (i.e. glitch, techno, dub (-step) and ambient), yet at the same time pointing towards rock, jazz and classical music.

"Highly recommended to all who require a shining beacon to get them through the dark depression of Winter." - Experimusic.

"Where a lot of electronic releases have flopped this year, Rumpistol is set to steal the limelight." - The Silent Ballet.

"Beautiful harmonic structures topple over spiralling rhythms, leaving you spell-bound." - Scanner.

  • Apart from being mainly instrumental, Snöleoparden´s selftitlted album comprises such different elements as Steve Reich-like minimalism (’Xylofon’ & ’Lillecykel ’), Pakistani folk songs (’Dreng’), childrens pop songs (’Hodja Fra Pjort’ & ’Grieg’), ritual/ceremonial music (’Trance’ & ’Snabel E’), electronica (’Den Evige’) & psychedelic rock (’Water Puppet Theatre’).
Elements of world music also has a strong influence on Snöleoparden´s music, but to simply label it world music, wouldn´t do it justice either.
What unites the tracks is the fact that they´re created in a state of childish ingenuousness, musical curiosity, and with eminent instrumental skills rarely heard like this.
During recordings as well as live sets Snöleoparden uses mostly homemade instruments, reel-to-reel tape recorders and guitar pedals to create his music.
The hypnotic rhythms are all hand-played and only in one case (’Trance’) based on a loop, done the old fashioned way of course, using a reel to reel tape.

Most tracks have small stories to accompany them. Like the track ’Dreng’ which were done with a 6-year old busking boy from the town of Sadikeabad in Pakistan on vocals. Or the charming rendition of Danish composer Sebastian’s ’Hodja Fra Pjort’, where the voices were recorded in a kindergarden and the instruments in the music room of a public school, using only the available instruments.

  • "Sylt" builds on the duo Icarus' inquisitive approach to electronic music production acquired over 6 album releases spanning over a decade. Improvisations, understated melancholy, outbursts of joyous rhythmic lunacy and a developing sense of instrumental musique concrète are all part of this intriguing album.

'Sylt is a wonderful deep album that proves that experimental music can be accessible to a bigger audience. One of the most surprising new albums in 2007. Perfect! - Michael Muck/Cuemix Magazine.

'Icarus are one of the most underrated and overlooked electronic artists who are so perfect at their craft, it almost concerns me how they´ve gone virtually unnoticed. They deserve far more attention then they have ever gotten throughout their entire career, and it is my hope this album will prompt people to invest time into the strange, wonderful and confusing music progression that is Ollie Brown and Sam Britton´s music project, Icarus.' - Eric Common/The Silent Ballet.

'Imagine placing albums by Four Tet, Amon Tobin, Squarepusher, Murcof, Lutz Glandien, György Ligeti, Iannis Xenakis, SND and Philip Glass into your cd changer and then pressing play only to find them all playing at the same time.' - KS/Experimusic.com

'A playful masterpiece of hyperrhythmic avant beat freetronica' - audioculture.org

'Giver man sig tid til at opleve Icarus' til tider frenetiske og altid krævende musik, belønnes man med et givende album, som bør begejstre fans af Sun Ra såvel so...

  • Vektormusik is the collaboration between Kristoffer Jørgensen and Thomas Ahlmark who continue the neo-ambient tradition, that labels like CCO and acts like Dictaphone are representing. At the same time they add an organic feel to the sound, a touch of modal-jazz (Bill Evans inspirered piano) and distant echoes of old Scandinavian folk songs.
It is a very atmospheric music that reveals itself as the Interfoliere EP goes along at snail´s pace, and pictures of deserted landscapes and dark windy streets appear on the retina.
The EP is dominated by well known instruments such as piano, clarinet and trumpet, and has references to jazz, folk and glitch electronica. Featuring a remix from Sora (JP).
