A few years ago a friend brought me an album and played it for me. I listened to it and I said: 'You must be out of your mind!' Thanks for the intro RJD2.
That record was Nan-D's minimal dub mix session, The Sound Expedition. I got hooked on the clicks and cuts.
And here we go, La Place Au Soleil and their first full-length White Rabbit: the psychedelic edge of glitch techno minimalism from Germany.
White Rabbit was the title of Jefferson Airplane's single featured on their 1968 album Surrealistic Pillow. Terry Gilliam slightly introduced it for us in his visual interpretation of Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas. Do you remember Dr Gonzo in the bath, fucked and yelling?
When listening to the German duo's debut, I definitely felt those nasty vibrations whilst tasting the link to the Sixties. With its psychoactive string samples bass-heavy grooves, this is the most innovative and creative production that happened in techno since Plastikman dropped Sheet One. This is true 21st century psychedelia.
