Even within the enigmatic discography of NOVY SVET the album FIN. FINITO. INFINITO takes a special place. The original 12" coming in an edition of 77 copies only offered nothing more than the title in embossed red letters - the rest was all blackness. The group's comments to this major work summed up to complete silence, which opened space for a mass of partly obscure interpretations. For sure this album was conceived as a good-bye, finding a climax in the suicidal title track. TESCO DISTRIBUTION now offers this rare example of a cult item coming up to the listener's expectations for the first time on digital format. REVIEW: IKONEN MAGAZIN "Novy Svet haben sich von ihrer ersten CD "Faccia a Faccia" (Neuauflage bei Tesco) an konsequent den gängigen Undergroundkategorien entzogen. Zunächst tauchten sie im Umfeld von Neofolk und Militarypop auf, doch der fast sanfte, anarchistische Stil des Wiener Pärchens wollte nie so recht dazupassen. Folglich entwickelten sie mit handgemachten Klängen auf Gitarre und Akkordeon sowie einer Esparanto-ähnlichen Kunstsprache einen ganz eigenen experimentellen Folkpop-Ansatz, der über zahlreiche - mitunter streng limitierte - Tonträger kultiviert wurde. Kam auf "Chappaqua" (Hau Ruck!/Tesco) eher die rituell-düstere Seite zum Tragen und auf "Venezia" (Nekofutschata) die Ambiente, kann man die nun als CD verfügbare "fin.fibnito, infinito" durchaus als eine vielschichtige Summe des Novy Svetschen Werkes bezeichnen. Unavailable for some years, FACCIA A FACCIA, NOVY SVET's second album, stands out as a classic from the late 90s post-industrial explosion. First issued by the now defunct British WSD label, TESCO DISTRIBUTION can offer this influential album now in new artwork and with a different ghost track from the same sessions. Foggy music and scratched melodies make up this CD that once was named the best release to commit suicide to. In other words: just beautiful.
